Rail power upgrades and maintenance works from Friday 30 August to Monday 2 September 2019

06 Aug 2019

There will be significant power upgrades and essential maintenance across the rail network from Friday night, 30 August to the early hours of Monday 2 September 2019 to help deliver more trains carrying more passengers. This involves disruption to the network, timed to coincide with AFL bye weekend to minimise impacts to you.

The power and maintenance works are part of the Victoria’s biggest power upgrade, helping to deliver bigger and better trains, signals and communications. As a result, buses will replace trains on sections of the Craigieburn, Cranbourne, Frankston, Pakenham, Sandringham, Sunbury, Upfield, Werribee and Williamstown lines, and regional trains on the Geelong, Gippsland and Warrnambool lines.

Additionally, no trains on any lines will run through the City Loop, with trams and replacement buses in place to help passengers move around the city and between City Loop stations.

Services will continue to operate direct to and from Flinders Street Station on the Mernda, Hurstbridge, Belgrave, Lilydale, Glen Waverley and Alamein lines across the weekend, with affected lines to return to regular timetables on Monday 2 September.

Please be aware of more people using the roads, or an alternative line or route, if their usual journey is disrupted.

More information on bus replacements and timetables will be available in the coming weeks.
