Getting home from Melbourne’s New Year’s Eve celebrations

27 Dec 2018

Public transport services will be free and run through the night on New Year’s Eve to ensure you can get home safely through the early hours of New Year’s Day.

The New Year’s Eve timetable will be different to a normal night network timetable, in order to allow you to enjoy the celebrations.

Metropolitan trains will run throughout the night on all lines, however the City Loop will be closed from 11.45pm, when services will depart Flinders Street Station.

From 12.15am until 1.30am metropolitan train services will depart Flinders Street Station every 10 minutes on all lines except Upfield, which will depart every 20 minutes.

From 1.30am metropolitan trains will depart Flinders Street Station every 30 minutes until the commencement of scheduled New Year’s Day services, which will run to a Saturday timetable.

Regional trains will run to a normal weekday timetable, with select additional train and coach services after midnight until 2am, before the commencement of scheduled New Year’s Day services from 7am, which will run to a Saturday timetable.

Trams will operate to a 5-10 minute frequency until 2am, then every 30 minutes until the commencement of scheduled New Year's Day services, which will run to a Saturday timetable.

Buses will operate to a normal weekday timetable, with services extended to 2am and operating at an increased frequency after 8:30pm on routes servicing the Doncaster area. Night bus services have been coordinated to connect with metropolitan train services in Melbourne’s west.

A full list of all services can be found at the New Year's Eve Event Page.
