Free travel on the Gippsland line

Travel will continue to be free on Gippsland line coach replacement services from now until Sunday 13 January.

Passengers who have already paid for tickets to travel between Monday 24 December and Sunday 13 January are entitled to a refund. 

  • Passengers who booked using a credit card via the V/Line website or the public transport call centre will automatically be refunded for their payment. Please allow up to five business days for the funds to appear back on your card.
  • Passengers who booked at a station or retail agent can present their ticket for a refund at any staffed V/Line station, including the Southern Cross Station booking office.  
  • Passengers who are unable to claim a refund from a staffed station can call 1800 800 007 to request a refund, This process may take up-to 10 business days.

In recognition of trains not returning on Christmas Day, all passengers who travel on the Gippsland line on Tuesday 25 December will receive a free return travel voucher that can be used in the new year.
 
Traralgon line passengers will not need to touch on or touch off their myki when travelling on coach replacement services during the free travel period.

Traralgon line passengers wishing to continue their journey on the metropolitan network can collect a weekly paper ticket for onward travel once they get off the replacement coaches.

Bairnsdale passengers will still need to book a ticket on their service and will be issued a paper ticket for their entire journey free of charge.

Passengers starting their journey at a premium metropolitan station can ask the station staff for a paper ticket for a single or return journey to Gippsland which can be used for travel in the metropolitan network.

The normal fare will apply for travel on scheduled V/Line coaches, including services to and from Maffra, Lakes Entrance, Southern New South Wales and South Gippsland.

Passengers with a myki pass valid during the free travel period and passengers who accidentally touch on their myki on a free service can apply for a reimbursement by calling  1800 800 007 or visiting our website.
