Our role and governance

Public transport is the lifeblood of Victoria and at the centre of our state’s liveability and future prosperity.

Every day over two million trips are taken on Victoria’s trains, trams and buses - helping people get to work and school, access critical services, as well as socialise, shop and participate in some of the world’s best cultural, artistic and sporting events.

PTV plays a crucial role in making these journeys a reality - championing and delivering improvements to keep people moving on a reliable, safe and inclusive public transport network.

In practical terms this involves managing public transport franchise and service agreements; managing network integrity; implementing network changes; and delivering user-focused passenger services.

Our work is interesting, dynamic and filled with challenges, and we’re committed to creating a public transport network that we’re proud of – one that Victorians value and choose to use.

PTV sits within the Department of Transport.
